[UPDATE] McRae Books unfortunately closed its doors in November 2008.
Several bookstores in Florence have books in English on their stock, McRae Books, which describes itself as the "English Language Bookstore in Florence" is one of them. This place is popular among the local anglophone expat community and it aims to become their preferred meeting point. McRae Books is actually a co-edition publisher based in Florence, many of the titles they publish are illustrated non-fiction books for children, which may explain the wide selection available in the store's children's section. The offer of fiction books in this store is also wide and rather different from the usual offer of major chain bookstores' English corner. You can find many many authors (especially British), which don't rank among the big names on the list of bestsellers. The store also holds a growing collection of second hand books.
Open since the summer of 2004, located in the historical center of Florence, near the famous Uffizi gallery. The store also organizes different cultural events and activities such as book clubs and author's readings.

My friend and I stumbled across this bookstore and it is a great find. We were able to replenish our reading stock from their used books as well, which featured a number of current titles. Perfect for the English traveler who has used up their reading material, or just wants something for the flight home.
