The Aldeburgh Bookshop has been in business for over 50 years. The current owners, John and Mary James, bought the shop in 2000, and moved from London to do so. The previous owners, who were retiring, were very helpful, but they have inevitably introduced their own style. The shop itself is a small independent general bookshop with a popular children's department and a good range of fiction, history and biography. The bookshop is situated in the picturesque seaside town of Aldeburgh. Furthermore, the Alderburgh Bookshop has won the the prestigious 2005 Aurum Independent Bookstore of the Year Award.
The Aldeburgh Bookshop celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2009. John and Mary James have owned this independent bookshop on the Suffolk Coast for over a decade. They stock a wide range of books, with an extensive selection of books of local interest to the Aldeburgh and East Suffolk.

Sad to say that this shop was a total hole when we visited recently. Filthy windows, dirty floor, some areas overstocked, others understocked, staff who didn't even know where the poetry section was, books in the windows but not in the shop. The children's area is a cramped, squalid, sad disgrace.
I rather got the impression that they were living on their laurels. They shouldn't be allowed to get away with it - the town deserves far better. Cannot imagine how they got their award.
Some interesting stuff to buy if you are a literary or musical snob, but a genuinely unpleasant experience.
